You noticed you put on a few pounds, and decided you need to do something about it. Well it’s time to get off the couch, put the remote down, and get started on a fitness program. The first question that comes to mind is where to start?
Before you start a fitness program of any sort, you should really go see your Doctor and get cleared to start a program. You made a good choice to start a program but start by seeing a doctor first.
Benefits of a Fitness Program
Starting a fitness program has a few good benefits like, it helps you lose weight, you get better sleep, and it lowers your risk for chronic diseases. Also, it gives you an overall great feeling of wellness.
Define Your Goals
After you have been given the OK from your Doctor, next you need to define your goals. You need to set two different kinds of goals, short-term and long term. An idea for a long-term goal would be, for a running program, six months or a year from now you would run a marathon. A marathon is 26.2 miles. A short-term goal, for running, would be two or three months from now to run a 5k. When you have completed the goals reward yourself (make it a non-food reward.) You earned it!
Getting Started of Your Fitness Program
Now the time has come to pick your program and get it started. There are numerous ways to gain fitness. You can choose running, swimming, cycling, cardio training or any number of fun activities.
In addition, there is strength training which involves weight lifting. Don’t overdo it though. Listen to our body. If you feel pain or feel like you’re going to puke your guts out, you need to stop. That is a sign that you’re overdoing it. Overworking puts you at risk of burnout and injury.
